I have voted since I turned 18, many years ago. My family, especially my father, were staunch Democrats, laborers, union members. However, as I began to think about upcoming candidates, I started to vote split ticket. My reasoning was to vote for the best person, not just for the party. But, of course, I told no one that I was doing this. My dad had made it very clear that we were all voting Democrat with no exceptions.
This rebel thinking of mine lasted until my first marriage. My wife’s father was a staunch Republican, but he did not dictate terms to anyone. Just common sense. So, once again I started thinking for myself about the candidates in general. But, in talking to my new father-in-law, I came to see that splitting my vote was a waste. I was helping no one.The new thinking became to “vote for the party.” The next most important thing was the issues and policies involved, and helping to get very important laws and bills passed in Congress. I had not thought this way before. But now it all became clear.
What became clear was that the two parties – Democrat and Republican – were miles apart in their thinking. Democrats, even then (in the 60s) were leaning much farther to the left in their policies, and Republicans were more to the right, with common sense as their watchword and mission. This appealed to me, so I changed my voting thinking. I felt then that my vote was very important to the country in general, even though it was just one vote, mine.
Unfortunately, there are far too many people who do not feel this way, thinking that their vote does not count or make a difference. They are very wrong in their thoughts about the process. When you look at the big picture, every vote counts and makes a difference. Just look at the totals on election night. Some races are very close, by only a few votes. There is a difference.
When I think about the states of Maine, Minnesota, Michigan, etc., (what is it with the M’s?), I also think about all of the people NOT voting, and the people thinking that their vote does not count or make a difference. And then I think about the damage that this lack of thinking and participation has caused. Serious harm has come to these states by apathy, and, God forbid, it might be irreversible. And even now, the only way to change this infection in these states is by voting. Serious, common-sense voting. No more apathy. Everyone must step up!
Would anyone in my generation have even dreamed (nightmared) that Communists would be taking over cities and states “by being elected?” No! Not in our wildest dreams. And, in thinking back to the 50’s, when McCarthy was maligned and vilified, we can now look back and see his thinking and its relevance to our situation today.
Once again we see that we really don’t learn by our past mistakes, by history. Why? because our young generations are not learning history, they are learning Socialism, Communism, and Islamism in our public schools! This is the silent take-over that Khrushchev was talking about in the 50’s. And Mao in the 60’s. etc…! We, all of us, have not been listening. We have not assessed the problem and decided to do something. Why? Because we have also been indoctrinated by our Media of all kinds. The worst on the scene, however, has been the Internet, which reaches most of the world like a gigantic net. And all people are drawn in to it.
So now, looming ahead of us, because of our apathy and indoctrination is “One World!” The ultimate Socialism, Communism, Utopia, which translates ultimately to world-wide slavery. This, thankfully. is not here, but the groundwork is being laid right under our noses. The big question now is: “Are we aware and listening, and ready to steer our “Ship of State” back to the right, or not? There is a solution. It is called VOTING…! And realizing that every vote counts and does make a difference.
Anyone who is now listening and thinking needs to spread the importance of voting to everyone, everywhere. It is time to be active, to wake up the apathetic non-voters, and begin to “SAVE AMERICA…!” One vote at a time. God Bless America…!
